Some time with Photography

Hi all!

It has been a while since I have taken the time off to do some Photography. Presently, The Eastern Caribbean Islands are experiencing some sort of abnormal drought which is really resulting in a rise in temperature that is almost unbearable. I usually fight off the heat by taking a short walk over to the river nearby. Well, I should not be complaining about the heat since there are a lot of persons coming over from other to avoid the cold and enjoy the sunshine. I know you guys will enjoy coming over to these Islands also. You should plan a trip some day. It will be an experience that you will remember for the rest of your lives. There are so many things to do. From Hiking to Whale watching, partying to just getting away from everything, spend time with nature and renewing your mind in the ever so relaxing environment.

Anyway, today I decided to spend some time with nature, and I brought along a camera with me.
Here are some of the images that I captured.

Hope you guys like them! I'm off for now. Take care!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Goodbye March...Hello April

Photo: Big periwinkle - James H. Miller
Hey everyone,

March has been a very long month I must say. I feel like I've been in March for forever now. Well now we can say goodbye to March and all that came with it, for example, lent and welcome April, another busy hectic month, but a new beginning.

Well, over the month of March I've had a lot to get done...Research papers etc... Having gotten them out of the way, I can safely say that I will have much more time for blogging :-D...and April's already looking like a very exciting month. Well, I've still to finish posting about calypso, showing how it has developed over the years and there are lots of things going on in April that I would like to touch on: Easter, Alcohol awareness etc. Also I've found some personal old poetry that I would like to share and I've found an aspiring poet and would also like to share his work. Well there's always much to explore in the world of poetry.

Well I've decided to end March with a little poem. I hope you like it :-)

March right on to April
Don't just stagger by
Look forward with anticipation
Of a golden, fun-filled time
March right past the old months
Do not stop and sigh
Time is never waiting
Neither should you and I
Tunsie

I haven't given it a title. What do you think?

Well I'm off for now.
Bye
Tunsie

Cotton Bud Wonders

Ever wondered what good other than cleaning your earlobes could come from the sanitary cotton bud?? I sat thinking about it and decided to do some searching. Some place, somehow, an artist must have thought of some exciting way of transforming its purpose and introducing it to the world of art. Thanks to the great network of artists brought to us through the internet, In just about a minute, I stumbled on these young artists who are really impressive. Visit their blog and have a look at their work and cotton bud art. If you want to have a look at some spectacular works of art and see how far an artist can go with cotton bud art, take a look at a few images here.
I think I am going to have my share of cotton bud art creating, as soon as I figure out what exactly to create. Hope you guys are having a great time so far. enjoy! See ya! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The change

Hi all, I know you guys have been wondering what the Mystery Artist has been up to lol! Honestly, I have been doing a lot of work lately. I found myself getting involved in a number of website developments of which a lot of work is still needed to be done. I have not taken the time to officially let you guys know about the change to the blog. What lead us into deciding to join both the Rare Art Arena and the Poetry Lit and everything else blogs was the lack of free time to submit new posts as often as before. The truth is, these blogs really require a lot of time and effort to maintain. For me , the most difficult aspect is deciding what to write about next lol! and along with that, establishing contact with the artist I decide to feature. Everyone seems busy hehe. Anyway, since the Rare art Arena blog also included posts on poetry, I decided to invite my closest friend to post on the Rare Art Arena Blog, and that was when the thought of merging the blogs came up. Now, the Blog has two writers and I do most of the designing etc. Anyway, we hope that this will keep you guys entertained as we post along the way. Hope you enjoy the new look! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hey y'all

Time is flying by so quickly. So much to do in so little time. Well life's a hustle and that's just the way it is. Today I decided to continue on my search for art. As a child, I always loved the drawings in fairy tale books... Yes believe it or not I actually read fairy tale books as a child :D... and I've always been fascinated by their art. For that reason, I decided to search for some "fairy tale artists". Well in my search, I came across this great website: Art Passions Fairy Tales. It is filled with fairy tale art and also features many fairy tale artists. Be sure to check it out. I do hope that you like what you see.

Well I'm off now. Got some more work to get done. Happy weekend everyone :-D

Cheers! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Owl and the Pussycat

Hey Everyone,

It has been a very long but extremely exciting Saturday. Well, I'm just dropping by to share a poem. This was one of my favourite poems (its actually a non-sense poem) as a child and I know that I'm suppose to be all grown up now but hey it still puts a smile on my face :-).

The Owl and The Pussycat

I
The Owl and the Pussy-cat went to sea
In a beautiful pea green boat,
They took some honey, and plenty of money,
Wrapped up in a five pound note.
The Owl looked up to the stars above,
And sang to a small guitar,
'O lovely Pussy! O Pussy my love,
What a beautiful Pussy you are,
You are,
You are!
What a beautiful Pussy you are!'

II
Pussy said to the Owl, 'You elegant fowl!
How charmingly sweet you sing!
O let us be married! too long we have tarried:
But what shall we do for a ring?'
They sailed away, for a year and a day,
To the land where the Bong-tree grows
And there in a wood a Piggy-wig stood
With a ring at the end of his nose,
His nose,
His nose,
With a ring at the end of his nose.

III
'Dear pig, are you willing to sell for one shilling
Your ring?' Said the Piggy, 'I will.'
So they took it away, and were married next day
By the Turkey who lives on the hill.
They dined on mince, and slices of quince,
Which they ate with a runcible spoon;
And hand in hand, on the edge of the sand,
They danced by the light of the moon,
The moon,
The moon,
They danced by the light of the moon.
Edward Lear

More of Edward Lear's work can be found here. Also, I have added an article about Nelson Mandela on the writer's page. Feel free to check it out here.

In Memory of Myrtle Giraudel Eugene

It was like she had been destined to suffer. For her whole life, since she could remember there was some bit of suffering, until, toward the end of her short-lived life she was bedridden. One would think that all this suffering would have been reflected in her mannerisms, her expressions, her attitude. But that was far from the case; She never suffered with melancholy and if she did, she would never let it show. For that matter, her will to live caught on and gave many others who had listened to her that same sense of contentment in life through whatever situation they might have been in. She was always so joyful and grateful. She had never acted selfishly or with a sense of ingratitude. She never gave up. She fought on until the moment of her long predicted death.

People say that she was happy. Happiness they say... but that could be differed; for happiness and sorrow by no means can exist together. Her joy came from something much deeper and greater than a mere feeling of happiness. She was indeed in touch with the One being who is Greater than all else and He had blessed her. Blessed her with a spirit of contentment of gratefulness of joy and peace.

She was in great need physically but she had drunk from His well... and never was she thirsty again ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Calypso

Calypso is a style of Afro-Caribbean music which originated in the British and French colonial islands of the Caribbean at the start of the 20th century. Trinidad was the most important center of early calypso.

There are many stories as to how calypso came into being. The most popular theory is that calypso rhythms were developed after the coming of the first African slaves brought to work in the sugar plantations of Trinidad. Forbidden to talk to each other, and robbed of all links to family and home, the African slaves began singing songs. They used calypso, which can be traced back to West African kaiso, as a means of communication and to mock the slave masters.

It is also believed that:
  • Calypso came from the carib word 'carieto', meaning joyous song
  • Calypso originated from the French patois word 'carrousseaux' meaning a drinking party or festivity. This word later transformed into other variants, namely cariso, calyso and cayiso
  • It may have come from the Venezuelan (Spanish) word 'caliso' which referred to a topical song.
Calypsos are mainly sung during the carnival season in the Caribbean countries. These songs address the social issues in their respective countries. Initially, the majority of the songs were sung in patois. However, during the turn of the century when the people of Trinidad were struggling with the fading of the French patois and the emerging dominance of English, many terms were simply anglicized.

Here are two videos of Dominican calypsos. I hope you like them.

Back After a Long Break

Photo Compliments: http://www.nataliedee.com/012807/hi-pig.jpg

Hey everyone!

Can you believe it? It's already March. Time is just flying by so quickly. I don't think i can keep up with the pace of the new world. Well, I haven't been posting much lately for several reasons. I've had a very busy schedule...and I've been keeping away from the pc a bit...just enjoying nature..and giving much of my attention to the love of my life... The month of love is over but I feel sooo much in love right now that it just isn't funny. Well, it's a great feeling and I like it.

Well, I did promise some posts in particular and I am going to fulfill these promises. I did promise to highlight the works of blacks who made have made contributions to Literature in the past and I intend to just add this on to the writer's page once I get them done...I'll be sure to keep you updated. Also I promised that I would speak about calypso, which has become a well integrated part of Caribbean culture especially at carnival times. As for the love poetry, these will definitely be posted as we go along.

I've also found some poems that I had written a very long time ago. I will also post these and would love to get your feedback... God knows what must have been going through my adolescent mind when i had written those.

Well, that's it for now. I'm going to go browsing through some blogs to see whats new... It has been a while

Ciao! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
