It's the beginning of a new day and a new week. Well I have a lot to get done this week (as usual) and was just taking some time to plan out my week properly. Well this week I intend on looking deeper into lyric poetry. After my bible reading today, I also decided that this week I need to be a little more loving. 1 Corinthians tells us that we can have the ability to do many good things, but without love, none of it is of any value. Maybe we really ought to be more loving, really thinking about it. What harm will it do us? None that I can think of. It only makes us better people. Well at least that's what I think anyway.
1 Corinthians 13
Love
1If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing.4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.
I hope we can all be a little more loving from today on.

Another great post. I was raised as a Catholic (I don't know how much you know about that) and Bible reading is not a big part of the tradition, mostly the Bible is intrepreted by the priest to the laymen during mass, so the Bible posts are particularly interesting to me. Of verse 11, I would respond, reason like a man, percieve the world as a child; open, wonderous, and full of love. All the best,TVA
ReplyDeleteThanks much. And I do know a bit about catholic. I went to Catholic girls' schools from age 5 up til high school. And I have done a lot of research on the question of Catholicism. I honestly think that people should take time to explore the Word of God individually. Yes, we should listen to the interpretation presented to us by our leaders, but that doesn't mean that we can't do some of the reading on our own. It is my hope and prayer that you do.

Hi Lady...it is so nice to meet you! I'm a Methodist and reading the Bilbe is a major part of my faith. I saw 1 Corinthians, and I had to smile...The "behavior" book...it's not my favorite, but it seems I keep getting sent back there...lol...I do love chapter 13...it is a favorite...Your site is wonderful!...lynn
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn. I love Literature and the Bible is my favourite of all books. 1 Corinthians is not my favourite book either, I much prefer Philippians and Proverbs but 1 Corinthians 13 does have a strong message behind it and that is love. Thanks for stopping by. Hope you come by again :D
